I am an investigative and enterprise editor at The Washington Post. I previously worked as the Deputy Washington Bureau Chief of VICE News and a senior producer for VICE News Tonight on HBO, and as the editor-in-chief of the Dallas Observer, an award-winning alternative newsweekly.

Before becoming an editor, I worked as a reporter, producing investigative and narrative journalism at daily and weekly newspapers.

I’m also the author of Bones: Brothers, Horses, Cartels, and the Borderland Dream, a 2017 work of narrative nonfiction and a finalist for PEN America award, and my writing has appeared at Amazon Original Stories, the Washingtonian, The Post and elsewhere.

I am a California native who has accidentally lived and worked in Chicago, Cleveland, Denver, Kansas City, Dallas and Washington, D.C. I live in suburban Maryland with my family.
